About Fastag
FASTag is an electronic toll collection system introduced in India to make toll payments faster, safer, and more convenient. It uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, where a small sticker containing an RFID chip is attached to the inside of a vehicle’s windscreen. When the vehicle passes through a FASTag-enabled toll plaza, the toll fee is automatically deducted from the linked prepaid wallet or bank account, allowing the vehicle to continue its journey without stopping for cash transactions.
How Does FASTag Work?
Each FASTag is uniquely linked to a specific vehicle and a bank account or prepaid wallet. As your vehicle approaches a toll plaza, RFID scanners installed at the toll gate read the information stored in the FASTag. The toll amount is automatically deducted, and a confirmation message is sent to the registered mobile number. This entire process usually takes only a few seconds, reducing waiting time and improving traffic flow at toll plazas across the country.

Using FASTag offers several advantages for vehicle owners. It enables cashless toll payments, eliminating the need to carry cash while travelling. Why is FASTag Mandatory for Many Vehicles?
The Government of India has made FASTag mandatory for most four-wheelers travelling on national highways to promote digital payments and improve traffic management. Vehicles travelling without a valid FASTag may be required to pay additional charges at FASTag-enabled toll plazas, as per the applicable rules.
